Instead of using bookmarks, students use these thinkmarks while reading. The thinkmarks guide students to think and use reading strategies while reading. Strategies that are encouraged by the thinkmarks are: connect, question, predict, visualize, and expand vocabulary. When students use a thinking strategy they open their thinkmark booklet and stop and jot their thoughts. The thinkmarks can then guide students to write a response to what they have read or assist students when participating in literature discussion groups.
