There are a lot of strategies we teach to help kids with reading comprehension, and kids who read a lot develop most of them on their own. But for students who aren't "happy readers," they need to be taught and practiced over and over again.
I wanted my students to really connnect with text and think about what they already knew about a topic. I narrowed down some of the strategies I focus on the most and made them into posters (similar to my "Writing Tips" freebie). I laminated them and hung them on the wall as simple reminders to implement their strategies before the students embarked on standardized testing.
