Product Description

There are a lot of strategies we teach to help kids with reading comprehension, and kids who read a lot develop most of them on their own. But for students who aren't "happy readers," they need to be taught and practiced over and over again.

I wanted my students to really connnect with text and think about what they already knew about a topic. I narrowed down some of the strategies I focus on the most and made them into posters (similar to my "Writing Tips" freebie). I laminated them and hung them on the wall as simple reminders to implement their strategies before the students embarked on standardized testing.

The set includes:

  • LOOK
  • What does the title tell me?
  • Are there pictures?
  • Are there graphic sources?
  • Ask ???
  • Monitor and clarify (Do I understand what I'm reading?)
  • Keywords (What words keep popping up over and over again in the text?)
  • Connect the text to your life and people you know.
  • Context (Does what I think a word means fit with the ideas in the text?)
  • Break it Down (Can I find smaller word parts in a word that I don't understand?)

If you like them, please remember to leave feedback! I'd appreciate hearing your opinions!
