A perfect tool for students to set independent reading goals during class and for teachers to easily hold students accountable for staying focused.
How I use this tracker in my classroom: I pass out paper copies to each student, have them fill out the first two columns of the tracker and circle the number 10. Students begin their independent reading assignments and I use the number system on the tracker to hold students accountable for their use of silent reading time. For example, students who are reading the entire time without distraction receive a 10 out of 10 for an in-class grade. If a student starts to talk, I quietly come over to their desk, cross off the 10 and circle the 9. I continue crossing off numbers if being off task continues. Once the independent reading time is complete, students fill out the third column and add any questions, comments or concerns. I've also used this last potion of the tracker as a cool-down.
Easy to put into the grade book as a participation or in-class grade.
