This patriotic lesson teaches the history of The Liberty Bell, and explains why the bell is a symbol of American independence. It can serve as a U.S. History lesson in Social Studies class or as a lesson in Reading class which greatly enhances students’ reading skills.
After 2 pages of informational text, there are 20 reading comprehension questions divided into 3 sets. There are 6 multiple choice questions, 6 questions in which students number events in order, and 8 True and False questions. Reading skills tested include main ideas, determining details, sequencing events, and making inferences. Vocabulary words taught include: belfry, bronze, displayed, independence, tolled, liberty, symbol, abolitionists, relics, and revered. The lesson also comes with a cute, colorful drawing of the Liberty Bell. The 6th page is the answer key. Being a word document this lesson can be easily printed off and also edited for your own class needs if necessary.
