Reading Warm-ups – Blasts! – Nonfiction #2 – Grade 6 – Passages and Questions is a set of twenty short reading passages coupled with four or more multiple choice questions that assess student knowledge and performance on grade six reading objectives. Each individual warm-up is designed to be used as a short daily reading practice. Students read a passage and answer questions based on the passage. This set of passages focuses on nonfiction passages. Biographies, autobiographies, expository, procedural passages, and informational passages are included. There are also many paired passages. Some pairs may include a two literary nonfiction passages, advertisements, persuasive passages, expository with procedural passages, expository with expository passages, and other pairs. An answer key and a matrix of reading objectives showing which passages include which objectives and for which questions are provided.

These warm-ups can be used in a variety of ways. You may have your students read the passage and answer the questions in class. The answers can be checked in class and discussed immediately. The warm-ups can be assigned as homework and checked in class the next day. Several warm-ups can be put together as a mini-test.
