Product Description
These bookmarks were designed to help support students in making STRONG post-its throughout Reading Workshop. They work beautifully as a scaffold to help students gain more independence in their books. Not to mention, all students will love the bright and bold colors!

Common Core State Standards:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.3.3
Describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.4.1
Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.5.1
Quote accurately from a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.

Learning Objectives:
SWBAT make inferences using the text as support.
SWBAT determine the main idea using the text as support.
SWBAT react to the text.
SWBAT give character traits using the text as support.
SWBAT analyze the text.

Teacher Tips & Tricks:
Print a few copies of each of the post-it prompts sheets and cut out the squares. You’ll see that they’re the perfect size to fit on a 3x3 inch post-it. I like to match the post-it colors to the colors of the bookmarks (but I’m color happy) so that kids can make that connection as well. Use a gluestick to stick the prompts to post-its and assign to various parts of the text where those skills apply. You can also give students a certain type of post-it and allow them to determine the location where they’ll stop and think. You’ll see that the quality of their writing and thinking will improve over time and the scaffold can be gradually released.

Teacher Preparation
In order to assure that your bookmarks will last, print them on cardstock and laminate them. They are designed to be double sided with the stronger character traits on the back side of the bookmark.
