There are soooo many ways to record and collect your notes from reading and writing conferences with students. I've tried sticky notes and index cards, but these plain boxes work best for me. I like how they're large and empty so I can write whatever I'm thinking of at that time. For me, that's typically:
• the date
• the topic or title
• some notes about what the student is doing well
• a teaching point or idea for growth
These notes, collected over time, give me a set of anecdotal records that I refer to when assessing growth, determining grades, and conferring with parents.
