Reading and Analyzing Legends, Fables, Folk, and Fairy Tales
Product Description
I was tired of having different "sheets" for each of these categories so I decided to create one sheet that can be used with any of these readings. I ask the students to identify the basic elements of the text and then ask about evil forces and supernatural elements to assess whether or not the students are able to tall fact from fiction. I then have a focus on symbolism. This is because many of these genres are symbolic for other things and play a role in today's society and how cultures and ideas were shaped. Lastly, I ask for the moral or what the author wanted the reading to take from the reading. It is only one page so if you needed to add something to the backside, you easily could. I kept a pile of these ready and any time I had the students working independently, I would give them one of these graphic organizers along with a reading to see if they are able to consistently read and understand them. It would also be a great activity for homework because many of these texts are rather short and would not require a lot of time once taught how to complete the organizer. Enjoy!!
