This is a set of weekly assessments for reading and math. It is used to give feedback to students and parents of student progress through skills. These along with selected work samples are given to parents to sign for the week. The student conferences with the teacher and sets goals for the next week. These are benchmark expectations of where students should be as we work through our work each week. There will be students working above this level as well as some who will be below the level. I just make notes if I adapt the assessment in any way. It helps parents see the expectations and how their child is performing. The level gradually increases through out the year. The letter order is the same as Saxon Phonics as that is the program that my school has used for several years. We immerse the students in the alphabet during the first month of school. Our expectations are that the student know all letter names by October and all consonant sounds and short vowels by Christmas break. After that we increase our word list, spelling, and writing expectations. I hope by sharing this will be useful to you as well. There are students who perform above the level and those who are still below, this is a general benchmark where students are expected to be to gain success with the concepts. This set would cover the 1st 9 weeks.
