This product was created in answer to a data trend I was seeing with my students' reading and writing. On formative assessments, they had trouble identifying descriptive language in text and discussing how it helped them as readers. As writers, they had difficulty fleshing out descriptive details in their writing.
This product consists of two mini-lesson plans, one for readers workshop and one for writers workshop. I have easily adapted them to flow over 1-3 sessions, depending on the needs of my students. They can be used for whole group or small group instruction.
I have also included three different text type passages for use with the reading lesson plan: Fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.
Finally, this contains a student reflection page that requires students to explain how their thinking has changed as readers and writers. They also have to provide evidence from their own writing to show their growth.
This short but meaty product is a black and white resource for easy copying.
