Meta-cognition means “thinking about one’s thinking,” and this Think Chart provides a useful way to encourage students to increase their level of meta-cognition by giving them opportunities to make connections, make predictions, visualize, identify questions or confusions they have about what they are reading, note new or interesting vocabulary, write down thoughts about theme, and record personal reactions to the text.
This Think Chart can be used in an English/Language Arts class, a reading room, or a content-based classroom. It can be used within the framework of curriculum that you are already using.
Additionally, this Think Chart is flexible enough to use as you see fit, and it can be custom edited to work with your goals and teaching style.
Students will enjoy using the Think Chart because it has an open framework and allows for multiple responses. The graphic-organizer format of the Think Chart helps students to organize their thoughts so that they can “see” their thinking.
