This 3 week unit of study is a workshop approach to reading and writing grounded in persuasive animal fantasy. Your students will enjoy listing to Mo Willems' Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late, The Pigeon Needs a Bath, The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog, and The Pigeon Wants a Puppy while analyzing the author's craft to create their own persuasive animal fantasy pieces by using the writing process.
Students will used the research based method of repeated readings through Readers Theater to develop automaticity and prosody.
Invite parents into your classroom for the writing celebration as each writer takes the author's chair to share their piece and for the Reader's Theater Performance.
