In 2018, Mary Poppins returned to the screens after 54 years.
This guided reading activity, aimed at children aged 9-13 years old, celebrates the release of this film, and provides the stories behind the new film as well as the original from 1964. Children will also find out the author of the Mary Poppins books, and how Walt Disney used the money from the film to create Walt Disney World!
A range of skills are tested, including inference, summary and retrieval. Questions and answers are provided, with an indication of how many marks are on offer at the end of each question. This is particularly helpful for children preparing for reading tests and exams, encouraging them to give fuller answers where required.
Your children will love finding out about the story behind this wonderful film!
PLEASE NOTE BEFORE YOU BUY! This is part of a collection of guided reading activities looking at movie blockbusters such as Star Wars, Jaws, Harry Potter and James Bond. At a price of $4, this package provides FIVE reading comprehensions, including this Mary Poppins resource.
While you are here...
I have compiled a number of other comprehensions that you may be interested in. I’m sure your students would love to find out about these exciting stories

A bit about me:
Before teaching, I was a journalist. I still work as a freelance writer, and like nothing more than writing engaging texts to challenge and inspire children and young people. I choose subjects that may not be on the curriculum but are of great importance for students to know about.
Everything I write has been comprehensively researched from a number of sources and been written by myself. No plagiarism here! This is all original material. My questions are pitched at a high level, but with a bit of patience and persistence (and some adult help if necessary) most students will have great fun as they learn, especially as the penny drops.
Your students will benefit from my reading comprehensions in guided reading, close reading, and lessons right across the curriculum. The comprehensions are closely aligned with Common Core, testing and developing skills in summarising, recall, inference, word meaning and contextual understanding.
I am aware of the impact of printed resources on our environment so try to condense my reading activities into as compact a space as possible. Hopefully this will help you save time in printing, and keep the bills down!
