A Reading for Information Pack from Mrs Crawford's Store.
There are six different types of activity in this pack designed to develop reading for information skills. Each of these contain a selection of tasks for students to complete and would be a useful addition to Literacy Centers/Stations.
Read and Check- Students must read two or three short extracts of information on a similar topic (Cars for Sale, Animal Hospital, Vacation Homes, Buy a New Book and Choose a Birthday Cake). They must then read the statements in the charts and tick or cross the box depending on whether the statement if true or false. There is also a third option for recording a ? This is to show that the information is not contained within the extract. (5 activities)
Sequencing Stories - Students must rearrange stories into the correct order. Once this is done, they must answer questions about the story, and then answer further questions on a non-fiction aspect of the story. (4 activities)
Read and Draw (Linked to Sequencing Stories) – Students must read a short passage and then draw a picture which includes the key information from the text. (4 activities)
Find the Bond Students must study a series of pictures and then answer questions based upon the connections between certain pictures. (2 activities)
Pin Board Comprehension Students must study short extracts of information, then skim and scan to pick out the required information in order to answer the questions. They must then create their own pin board adverts in the same style. (4 activities)
Think of Three Questions- Students must read a short non-fiction passage and then formulate three questions for other students to answer based upon the passage they have just read. (5 activities)
