Reading is sweet, isn't it? For the winter holidays, we create a sweet shop decorating theme in our library, and the best part are the paper cookies that students decorate to look like a book character.
This PDF printable freebie has the student instructions for reading a book over Thanksgiving break, then decorating the paper gingerbread person or circle shape on the reverse side to look like a character from the book.
I copy this onto card stock or heavier paper so that students can color, paint, or even glue items on to the cookie character.
Your school library or classroom will be filled with sweet, colorful book characters that you can display on a bulletin board. I use foil for my background so it looks like a big cookie sheet!
You can also use this as a makerspace activity during the fun days before the Thanksgiving or winter holiday break!
