Product Description
This is a poster I created to help my students actively read informational text. The goal is for my students to notice when they learn something new. What should they do?
• Stop and think while they read- whether it’s every paragraph or every page they need to learn to slow down and take time to think about what they are reading
• Use sticky notes marked with an “L” to write down new learning
• Draw pictures to represent new learning
• Listen for Wow facts- facts that are interesting and/or new to them
• Write or draw their reactions to the text-reading should evoke emotions (Ex. Gross!, Wow, that is really neat!, How sad!)
• Listen to your inner voice- much like #5 students need to pay attention to their thoughts. Their brains will signal new learning to them (Ex. Hmm, I never knew that before!, I’m surprised…)
• Think about your background knowledge- what do you already know about the topic? Have you learned additional information? Did you fix-up a misconception?

As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated!
