Product Description
Rationale
You probably know that 50%-75% of what we read is made up of 220 basic vocabulary words. Once kids know these, text will be much more accessible. These activities will provide your students with that critical practice that will lead them to success! Use for remediation in a small group, or as an independent center or station. It could even be sent home to practice with parents!

There are two activities for each level--preprimer words through the noun list--Memory Match and Vocabulary Roll and Read. Both are quick and easy to prep and in full color, with an engaging unicorn theme.

Memory Match
Materials and Preparation
Choose the appropriate level and print on tagboard for durability.
Cut words to separate and “shuffle” the deck.

Directions
Lay word cards face down in an array. (Due to the number of words in each set, you might make two separate games for each level.)
Students take turns turning over two cards at a time and reading the words aloud. If the cards have the same words, it’s a match! He keeps the cards, IF HE CAN READ THEM. If the words are different, the cards are returned to their spots, face down.
At the end of the game, students read the words they won to each other.

Roll and Read
Materials and Preparation
Choose the appropriate level and print.
Provide each partnership/small group a gameboard and a die.

Directions
Students take turns rolling the die and reading the words that correlate with the numbers rolled.
Optional: provide counters or cubes, a different color for each child. As they accurately read the words on a row, they place a counter next to it. The first child to read all six lines accurately is the winner.
