This reading the development of society, from Hunters and Gatherers, through the creation of large empires . Students will:
- Use the chart to analyze the four levels of societal development (Bands, Tribes, Chiefdom, States).
- Trace the creation of slavery, bureaucracy, taxes and literacy
- See the evolution of government styles and jobs as societies became more complex.
- Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each level of development
This activity is great for laying a foundational framework in a World History or Ancient Civilizations course. It gives students a lens through which to analyze and assess societies as history progressed. This lesson is paired well with the "Understanding Earth" activity, to see the connection between geography and societal success.
