- El Rap Contra el Racismo por El Chojin
This is a wonderful video/song that deals with the difficult to teach topic of discrimination. The song includes some a few strong words that may make it inappropriate for younger students, but it is an excellent way to start a discussion in an AP class about racism and discrimination in our society and in other parts of the world. There are 9 short answer/ free response comprehension questions and 14 quotes using figurative language that the students must re-write in simpler Spanish.
- Video guide for the Documentary, La Historia de América Latina, Pueblos Silvícolas y Fluviales. This video is 50 minutes long in Spanish and available free on rtve.es (radio televisión española). The video guide has a total of 100 questions of general comprehension and vocabulary in multiple choice, true/ false, matching sentence completion and matching identifications. The guide is divided into two parts so that the video can be watched during two different class periods or they can be combined to watch the whole video at once. A full answer key is included. It worked well in my AP Spanish language class, giving the students insight into the colonization and indigenous cultures of the Amazon region as well as their effects on current culture while improving their listening skills.
During this unit my AP Language and Culture class is also reading the first half of the novel La Ciudad de las Bestias by Isabel Allende Take a look at it to see if it would be good for your classes.
