This worksheet is intended to scaffold close read instruction for the Ready Gen close read questions. The way I use it is, I separate students by ability and name the groups "apples, bananas and cherries." I allow the highest group to work either independently or in a small group. The middle group works in a small group, but I only check in on them periodically during the small group work time. Finally, I give the lowest academic group the most intensive assistance, and work closely as they navigate the text to find specific details to support their response. The glory of this is that if the higher groups complete their portion quickly, they may move on to the other groups questions. We then share aloud so that students can build upon each other's learning. This practice is especially helpful for PA teachers who must also master Text Dependent Analysis for state testing.
