This resource is for whole group instruction to use with Lesson 12 Curriculum Associates Ready Math. Each day contains standards, I can statements, activities for whole group that follow the pacing of lesson 12, and assessment (exit ticket or worksheet from series). There are some teacher notes, mathematical discourse questions, and directions on almost every page to make whole group a breeze. In some instances I might have rearranged the pacing based on my students and some times I have added additional teacher examples and student examples for extra practice before independent practice.
This lesson also include an Amazing Race game. This is an activity I use to mix things up. Instead of having my students do the worksheets, I divide my students into pairs to play. You will need to make copies of the instructional pages 110-113 (enough for each pair to have a copy). Then cut each problem apart so you have stacks of question 1, question 2, etc. together. The goal of the game is just to finish. Each team that finishes receives a little prize. The game starts with every team receiving question 1. Students work together to solve the problem, then one teammate brings it to the back table to be checked by the teacher. If they get it right, give them question 2. If they get it incorrect, they must go back and try again. Players do not receive the next clue until they successfully complete the question correctly. I usually clip each question set together and lay them out in order on my back table, so I can quickly trade the clues out. I also usually keep a trash can next to me and as students get the clues correct, I dispose of them before giving them their next clue. This helps cut down on clutter. Feel free to email me if you need further clarification on this game.
