This lesson includes questions and examples for Benchmark Vocabulary Routine for Informational Text on pages TR24-TR27. It can be used in addition to or in place of the Reader’s and Writer’s Journal pages. This lesson is constructed according to the Bringing Words to Life model by Isabel L. Beck, Margaret G. McKeown, and Linda Kucan. I have provided student-friendly definitions and have given lots of opportunities for students to practice using the words. In subsequent lessons in the unit (to be posted soon!), I will refer back to these words so students can continue using all the words they’ve learned and apply and relate them to new words.
This lesson can be used during the Benchmark Vocabulary part of the ReadyGen daily lessons or if needed, during the Scaffolding Strategies vocabulary lessons. Students are afforded opportunities to use the words, in an increasingly more independent manner.
