Included in this download is a pdf with 6 different block design mats. Use this as a general reinforcer/open-ended game that can be played with any speech/language target! Great for groups!
Print off pages 3-8 and laminate as full sheets. These are the mats with the block designs your students can choose from when playing. Print pages 9-11, laminate, and cut out each piece. These will go in a pile when you are playing. You may want to print or back these on cardstock before laminating so the playing pieces are not see-through when they are face down on the table.
HOW TO PLAY:
Place block pieces in a pile on the table. Students choose a mat, and as they go through each turn practicing their speech/language targets, they will get to draw a block card from the pile.
As students draw cards from the pile, they get to keep the block if it matches one they need on their mat. If it does not match a block on their mat, they put it back in the pile. The first person to match all 10 blocks on their mat, wins! Or, whoever has the most pieces on their mat by the end of the session wins if you run out of time before anyone finishes.
For a fun twist, you could gather real toy building blocks and put the pieces you need in a bag (make sure the blocks are not visible to students). Students can reach in the bag and pull out a block to see if it matches a piece they need on their mat. If it does, they can keep it. If not, they put it back in the bag. Students can try to build their designs as they collect their block pieces!
