Students read excerpts from President Ronald Reagan's "Tear Down This Wall" speech and answer 20 questions. There are a mix of academic, opinion, and creative questions. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub! This would work for both US History and World History.
Sample questions include:
--List and describe the emotion(s) invoked by phrase “tear down this wall” from 3 unique points of view in 1987.
--Why does Reagan make an extra effort to provide a greeting specifically to those in Eastern Europe and East Berlin?
--Why do you think Reagan refers to the Berlin Wall as a "scar?"
--Make a clear, but academic connection, between the West German economic miracle and liberty.
--In one sentence explain why Krushchev's "we will bury you" statement was wrong.
--Using context clues, define "comity."
--Why could it have been a possibility that these were "token gestures?"
--Predict what the importance of, or value of, this speech might be 50 years from now and explain your thought process.
