These are great non-fiction reading resources for Literacy centres. The activities are all based on reading things in the real world, that students will encounter in their everyday lives: forms, timetables, TV guides, warning signs, how to instructions.

The tasks ask them to recall the facts: remember and write about prior knowledge and experiences: predict outcomes and understand.

There are 20 cards, each with a real-life text. I'd use these tasks with Grades2 and 3, but obviously depends upon students ability, rather than age.

There is a worksheet with tasks for each card.

On the worksheets, I have some MUST DO and some CAN DO tasks.

I’ve included the CAN DO, to cater for differences in students’ interests, experiences and abilities.

Depending upon time, I usually ask students to choose one or two CAN DO tasks.


I usually cut and laminate the cards. and store with copies of the worksheets.

These make great Literacy Centre Activities.

There is a tracking sheet for students to keep a record of completed work.

I have a similar set, which is a little more difficult.
