When would we ever use this?! We all hear this from our kids. Here is a project that will highlight the types of situations where using multiples and factors would be helpful.
This project involves planning a party for your classmates and families. Students must decide how many packages of items to buy to have the least amount of leftovers (LCM). They must also arrange desserts on plates to put on tables (GCF). In addition, you can have the students calculate cost (adding and multiplying decimals). Processing questions are included to encourage students to connect the concepts to the skills they just used.
This project is ideal for 6th grade students as an inquiry task before the concepts are formally taught, or a performance task after the concepts have been taught. It would also be appropriate for advanced 4th graders after factors and multiples have been mastered.
Black and White and Color versions included.
