Real World Language: Literal & Nonliteral Cues & Situations We Use Every Day is a packet designed to help students become familiar and use social words and phrases.
Real World Language can be used by SLPs, teachers, counselors, and ELL teachers. Students who can benefit are those with learning difficulties; ELL learners; students on the autism spectrum; and students with pragmatic difficulties.
This 40-page packet includes:
7 discussion areas - Hello, Good-bye, I Don't Believe You, Crazy/Frustrated, In Trouble, Look-Alike, and Calm Down.
Each discussion area includes 5 pages - a discussion page, 2 teacher instruction pages, and 2 student recording pages (one recording sheet for SLPs and one general recording sheet)

Each discussion area focuses on the social vocabulary presented in the following hierarchy:
Introduction: discussion of social words used
Two Situational Contexts: can be asked as open-ended questions or as multiple-choice questions with 2, 3 or 4 choices depending on student's skill level. Also includes extension questions.
Fill-in-the-blank sentences: four sentences per topic
Jokes - one contextual and one phonological awareness
