This is an assignment in which students are given two situations in which people are walking toward a sign in front of a school. One situation is given by tabular data; the other is a description. Students are to graph both situations on the same sheet of graph paper (not included in file), formulate absolute value functions for each, and answer several follow up and extension questions. There is a question which requires students to solve an absolute value equation and one which requires students to solve an absolute value inequality. Students then are asked to compare their solutions with the graph. This assignment/assessment was written with names/labels/titles specific to a particular school. By changing these in the Word document the user can make the assignment more relevant to his/her students. An answer key is provided, including a graph.
