These are recording sheets that go with my new Google Play app Real or Nonsense Word?.
Real or Nonsense Word? is an app that can be used to help assess beginning and struggling readers. You can use this app for whole group instruction, small group instruction, one-on-one instruction and even in literacy centres.
Sometimes students will guess at words and pay little attention to the actual letters they are seeing, other than the beginning sound or having memorized the words rather than learning to sound them out. Practice with nonsense words can improve a student’s ability to decode individual phonemes and then blend them together to read. Students who can decide if the word is a real word or a nonsense word are starting to build their basic comprehension.
The teacher or the student will choose which centre they would like to do. Once in the centre, the teacher or the student touches the numbers in order to bring up random letters. The student can then type the word created in the text box and then press on the Listen button to hear the word.
The student can write down each word on the recording sheet and decide if the word is a real word or a nonsense word.
You can purchase the app in the Google Play Store at: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=appinventor.ai_kemble_flynn.RealOrNonSenseWord&hl=en
