You’re going to love this!
• 3 letter spinners, coded 1, 2, and 3 for ease in ordering
• spinner arrows
• Real vs. Alien CVC word recording sheet
What you need:
• single hole punch
• 3 brad fasteners
• different colors of cardstock/construction paper for the spinners (optional, but HIGHLY recommended)
Assemble spinners as per directions on their respective pages. Definitely LAMINATE all spinners and parts to ensure durability! Also, print out enough recording sheets so all students participating have their own to use. I put these in plastic sheet protectors so I don’t waste paper and lamination! Plus, clean up is a BREEZE! ☺
There are zillions of ways to play this game! I most often use it during ELA center time. Students are partnered together in groups of 2-3. When it’s time to start, the first player spins ALL THREE spinners (in 1, 2, 3 order, of course). Then, s/he reads the word s/he spun (i.e., /s/ /e/ /t/). If the word is REAL, s/he writes it on the “REAL” side of the recording sheet. If the word is NOT REAL (i.e., “alien”), s/he writes it on the “ALIEN” side. After the word is read and recorded, the next player gets to spin, read, and write!
I love having the recording sheet available to ensure students are working productively while I’m attending to a small group during this time. Of course, they love it because anything involving spinners is ALWAYS a HIT! Enjoy!
