This is a simple and fun way for students to review key vocabulary terms at the end of the Realidades 9A chapter for level two. I have used these review puzzles in multiple ways:
1. Whole-class race: I give a puzzle sheet to each student, put on some music, and they each cut out their own puzzle. When they’re done, they stack the puzzle pieces in a pile. When I count to three, everyone starts putting their puzzle together. The first five students to complete theirs gets a prize! I then project the answer key on the Smartboard for a minute, and I have the students put a paper clip around their puzzle and turn it in, so the rest of my classes don't have to cut any puzzles up.
2. Whole-class partner race: Same as above, but each group of two students gets one puzzle sheet to cut out and assemble. This encourages students to talk together about the vocabulary.
3. Working alone: The day before the chapter test, I give a practice test to the students. As they finish and are quietly waiting for everyone else, I pass out a puzzle to each student.
4. Station Activity: These puzzles work great as a station activity, and I have students show me their completed puzzle before they can begin the next station.
Hint: Keep at least one un-cut puzzle sheet handy to use as an answer key.
