With this preview guide your students will have the opportunity to focus on their learning for the upcoming unit. The guide gives them a “book walk” in which they see each part of the unit and how it will help them work toward fluency in the language. They will be predicting the future vocabulary, making connections to prior knowledge, and learning general study skills. This is similar to the idea of an anticipatory set or an anticipation guide that I have used in my ELA classes.
You can use this one-page preview either as classwork/homework on the day that the students take the previous test, giving your fast finishers something to do while the others complete the test, or you can assign it as classwork or homework on the first day of the new chapter.
One of the things I struggle with in my Spanish classes is the fact that the students are still developing their study skills, so they often don’t know how to study for their next big test. The Realidades text series does a good job of organizing information so that the students can clearly see what information is important in the unit. Unfortunately, the text series does not point out this organization enough. With this guide, I hope the students use the tools provided in the book to optimize their learning.
If you click on the preview for this assignment, I have uploaded a portion of the Realidades 1: 4A guide so that you can see what these are like before you purchase one. The thumbnail is also from chapter R1: 4A.
Answer keys are included.
