Realism - American Literary Movement Series, part V

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This literature unit on Realism is the fifth in the series from the American Literary movement, which includes: The Puritan Era, The Age of Reason, The Romantic Era, Transcendentalism, Realism, Harlem Renaissance, Modernism and Post Modernism. As a reaction against Romanticism and Transcendentalism, Realism was given philosophical ground through German Idealism, American pragmatism, economic theories and further, it was assigned social obligations by the progressive movements. While the Romantics and Transcendentalists may have, at times, tried to escape the elements and conditions of space and time for a positive idealism, the Realists stared earthly circumstances in the face, investigating and documenting them so that honest voices could be heard, and problems could be addressed and resolved. This unit includes a comprehensive power point covering the historic context, notable writers and writings for analysis, as well as scaffolded guided notes for the students.
