This budgeting project begins with students researching the median income for their desired post-secondary education job and calculating the monthly take-home pay based on that salary. They then use this take-home pay to budget

  1. Rent/mortgage
  2. Home insurance
  3. Utilities
  4. Car/transportation payment
  5. Gas payment
  6. Car insurance
  7. Groceries
  8. Cell phone

They learn realistic expenses of each category and are able to compare various plans and prices based off of real prices from real companies.

Students are asked to make a weekly meal plan and grocery list to plan for food expenses.

Project also includes optional budget categories such as home security system, gym membership, and tv/music streaming memberships, all based off of real prices by real providers.

The project also includes an emphasis on savings, encouraging students to finish their budget with a percentage in a savings category.

Grading suggestion and e-mail to contact me with questions is included as well!
