This package includes multiple choice quizzes (25-30 questions) on the the following novels:
: I like to offer my students a few choices within a certain genre. They are required to read the entire novel for homework. I usually give them one month to read the book that they choose, and then at the end of that month, I quiz them on it. As far as student growth goes, I can say that this has been my most effective strategy. When my students read 10 books a year for homework, their state assessment scores sky rocket! As proof that this is true, I have consistently ranked in the top 10% of ELA teachers in the state of Florida. With my gifted students, I sometimes include lists that are only comprised of classic novels (like four Jules Verne novels) and three of our months consist of a reading a shared novel for homework (like To Kill a Mockingbird, Unbroken, and Fahrenheit 451).
: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close does have mature content. I would not recommend it to your 8th grade students, unless you are going to strategically skip a couple of the graphic chapters (letters from Grandma are quite steamy). If you want me to create a package that replaces this title with The Van Gogh Deception (which is more middle & elementary school material), email me and I'm on it!
