Here is a cute way to teach facts versus opinions in writing. If you grabbed my Reasoning With Rain freebie- you will love this just as much! This activity also includes a bonus of synonyms and writing practice. Like always this is aligned to the Common Core, kid tested and approved!
Print and Laminate all pages (except 9) for durability.
Cut out “flower” sentences.
Use the fact vs. opinion sheet on page 3 to introduce the terms to students.
Read the story on page 4 to students, or print multiple copies for independent student reading. Complete synonyms and sentence activity (included).
After reading, have students draw “flower” sentence cards and determine if the statements are facts or opinions by using context clues from the story.
Students place “flowers” on the appropriate background.
Use page 9 as carryover of these skills for homework.
