Reasoning With Rain is a great activity to distinguish between facts and opinions in writing!
Print and Laminate all pages (except 9) for durability.
Cut out “raindrop” sentences.
Use the fact vs. opinion sheet on page 3 to introduce the terms to students.
Read the story on page 4 to students, or print multiple copies for independent student reading. Review key vocabulary words with students.
After reading, have students draw “raindrop” sentence cards and determine if the statements are facts or opinions by using context clues from the story.
Students place “raindrops” under the appropriate umbrella.
Use page 9 to use as carryover of these skills for homework.
