A great guide guided created to track student's understanding of the causes of Earth's seasons.
The note guide works as a pre-asessment tool, during learning note page, and a post lesson reflection.
The way I used it with my students is as follows:
Day 1 -- students fill K, and W of KWL chart and their 'before' opinion on the topic. They pair-share with a partner, annotate their K and Ws, and note whether or not their opinion was changed after pair-share. Students then receive new data about seasons and are required to analyze it.
Day 2 -- students present their conclusions about seasons, class discussion on how the ideas compare/contrast. Students fill in 'after class discussion' opinion.
Day 3/4 -- seasons activity or lab of teachers choice.
Day 5 -- students fill in their final opinion and reflection on how can this information be useful.
MS-ESS1-1. Develop and use a model of the Earth-sun-moon system to describe the cyclic patterns of lunar phases, eclipses of the sun and moon, and seasons.
