Rebus Sentences & Phrases
A Pocket Chart Activity
150 Sentences & 56 Phrases
Using 14 Pre-Primer Words
This is a set of 150 rebus sentences and 56 phrases using 14 pre-primer words. The sentences and phrases can be placed in a pocket chart for the children to practice reading. This activity can be used in whole or small group. This is a great way to teach sight words. The words used are: for, play, have, said, she, he, big, little, you, on, in, are, up & down.
Glue the word/phrase cards (She, He, We are) on a tongue depressor or Popsicle stick for the children to hold up.
Two children will decide on an action to perform. They will then hold up the card ‘We are’ and perform the action. The other children will read the words and add the action to complete the sentence. (We are jumping. We are clapping.) They will then stand up, read the sentence, and perform the action. This can be used in whole or small group. This is a good brain break activity also.
I also included the word cards ‘up’ and ‘down’. The teacher can hold these up at any time they think the children need a break for the children to stand up and sit down. The ‘down’ card can be used when children are coming to the rug to sit or the ‘up’ card when it is time to stand up to leave an area.
