Five days of Social & Emotional Learning lessons that go along with the story “The Recess Queen” by Alexis O’Neil. This lesson is the perfect way to introduce or review recess and/ or playtime expectations at the beginning of the year, or when your class is in need of a refresher! To build a safe and inclusive classroom communit, It is important to teach and reinforce social skills not just in the beginning of the year, but also throughout. Lessons are all intended to be “mini” so that they fit easily into your day! This resource is the perfect way to teach social skills through literature in a whole class setting or small group setting.

One weeks worth of lesson plans for the mentor text “Decibella and Her 6-Inch Voice”
>>Monday: read aloud, discussion, anchor chart of recess / play time rules.
>>Tuesday: picture sorting – as a class (or in partners) you will sort and discuss examples and non-examples
>>Wednesday: Learning/ Practicing how to: Invite a friend to play and ask to join. Students will also act out and/or discuss scenarios.
>>Thursday: “mini book / reader” of recess/ playtime rules (both a “recess rule” and “playtime rule” cover included)
>>Friday: Reread mentor text and complete writing extension craftivity (several types of paper are included for differentiation).
