This reciprocal teaching discussion card set provides a guide for reciprocal teaching groups at the middle and high school levels. Each card provides a role description for five different student roles. Each role matches a different reading strategy of proficient readers. As students develop comfort with the processes for each strategy, they can begin to engage in more authentic conversation. It takes some intentionality of adding strategies one at a time after each is introduced through explicit instruction and practice. We have added an addition strategy (retelling) that you may not see in typically reciprocal teaching literature. We explain that further in the lesson ideas attached in the PDF.
