These cards are designed to guide students through the reciprocal teaching process. Each card gives students the name of the step, and guides them through leading their own group in discussion about an assigned text.
Just select any text you would like your students to read and comprehend. Segment the text into small 1-2 paragraph chunks. After dividing your students into groups of four, designate one student to begin as the leader. This leader will guide the rest of the group through the reading and analysis of the first chunk of text.
These cards address:
Step 1: Predicting
Step 2: Reading and Annotating
Step 3: Wondering and Questioning
Step 4: Clarifying Unknown Words and Phrases
Step 5; Summarizing
After completing all five steps addressing the first chunk of text, the leadership role rotates to the next student. This student will use the cards to guide the reading and analysis of the next chunk of text. This continues on until the text has been completed.
A suggestion for use is to print the cards and mount them on construction paper before laminating. Using a loose-leaf ring, put all the cards in order for the leader to flip through during the reading and analysis of the text.
