This lesson builds vocabulary and phonemic awareness by changing phonemes (sound units) to recognize new words. In 24 pages, the child will
• preview the letter sounds /m/, /f/, /s/, and /r/,
• preview six one-syllable words: man, fan, van, sun, run, and fun,
• recognize new words by changing the first letters,
• read the words in sentences,
• identify and read sight words in phrases and sentences,
• answer literal comprehension questions, and
• trace color-coded letters and words.
The activities are aligned to the following standards:

RF.2.2c: Blend and segment onsets and rimes of single-syllables in spoken words.
RF.2.2d: Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three-phoneme (CVC) words.
RF.2.2e: Add or substitute individual sounds (phonemes) in simple, one-syllable words to make new words.
RF.3.3c: Read common high-frequency words by sight.
RF.3.3d: Distinguish between similarly spelled words by identifying the sounds of the letters that differ.

L.1.1e: Use the most frequently occurring prepositions.

This guided-reading pack is the fifth lesson of Book 14
