This is a PowerPoint presentation that basically shows various photographs of the moon in different phases. This presentation is meant to give students some practice recognizing moon phases, AFTER they have learned the basics of the lunar cycle. The photographs are purposefully out of order and sometimes phases are repeated. I like using photographs of how the moon actually appears, as opposed to the diagrammatic representations often found on worksheets, etc. This way, knowing the phases of the moon, seems more relevant to the students. Classroom discussion on each slide can include: What are the relative positions of the sun, earth, moon at this time? What phase is next? What phase came before?.....etc.
