This is a lesson that I have taught with different ages about recognizing an author's point of view and bias. There are 6 sources included (all about sharks/ shark finning) for students to read and evaluate. There are a ranger of perspectives from "sharks are monsters" and "killing machines" to "sharks should always be protected even over human life". The first two articles are shorter/easier reads and I have used them with 3rd grade in an assignment where they determine their own point of view and write an opinion piece to support it. I have also had 4th-6th graders read all 6 articles and complete the chart in cooperative groups. In this activity they have to determine if there is bias in the article and draw conclusions about the author.
