Reconstruction Gallery Walk Activity
Guiding Question: “Did Reconstruction Bring About Revolutionary Changes?”
Students move from station to station (6 total), reading and analyzing a series of documents (readings, maps, cartoons, photographs – 31 documents total), and taking notes on a graphic organizer in an effort to answer the above question.
Each station focuses on a different aspect of Reconstruction including:
• Political Changes During Reconstruction
• Assisting Freedmen
• The Quest for Equal Rights
• The Ku Klux Klan
• Economic Changes During Reconstruction
• Segregation in the Jim Crow South
Students then write a paragraph in response to the guiding question. This activity promotes teamwork, critical thinking, and active engagement. Students love it!
