This gripping primary source story will leave your students with an unforgettable understanding of the horrific acts carried out by the KKK, and how it negatively affected Reconstruction. The information sheet introduces how and why the Klan formed, and how they tried to impact the newly established rights of African Americans following the Civil War. The information sheet also includes a stunning first person account of the terrible activities of the Klan.
Students will then use the information sheet and story to answer the response questions on the next page. This activity works well as a mini-lesson, or as a homework assignment.
