This product uses Lincoln's Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction speech to allow students to see how Lincoln felt about having the South rejoin the Union. There is a considerable amount of challenging vocabulary in the speech. The challenging vocabulary is defined for students so that they can comprehend the speech. After the reading there are questions that follow. Since the Reconstruction unit is usually one of the first units in the 8th grade curriculum a political cartoon is provided as well to ease students into analyzing a political cartoon.
