This unit includes 10 lessons that highlights the formidable years following the Civil War. It begins with the goals of Reconstruction, the important Amendments passes, as well as the struggles of recently freed slaves. The unit also analyzes the important legislation of the period, including the laws that greatly limited the freedoms of African-Americans, such as the Black Codes and the Jim Crow laws.
Included in the unit is a project in which students create a poster highlighting the "Road to Full Citizenship". There is also a packet designed to coincide with the movie Lincoln, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, which focuses on the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment. Included with all this is a week long essay assignment. This is a cause and effect essay assignment that not only recaps the entire unit, it also gives students invaluable instruction on how to properly format a cause and effect essay.
Power Points for each lesson and each aspect of the cause and effect essay are included.
Please consider following me. Throughout the school year I will include new units of study for Social Studies. Also inquire about any other subject in which materials are needed. I'm sure I have something that could help.
