Reconstruction Post Civil War Problem Solving

Reconstruction Post Civil War Problem Solving
Product Description
Right after you have finished the Civil War, it is time to cover Reconstruction. Tell your students that they will represent Union government officers and will be responsible for “reconstructing” the South. This of course involves more than rebuilding destroyed buildings. It involves making important political and economic decisions and ensuring that the South will be part of the Union again without repeating past injustices. So congratulate your students for winning the war and hand out the worksheets that are pretty much self-explanatory. This is done best in pairs. After they are done, you can go over their answers and then lecture about what really happened. Because they tried to reconstruct on their own, they will be more engaged when you lecture about the way things really played out. The worksheet includes issues such as land distribution, law making, providing economic aid, and to what extent Confederate officers would be punished or pardoned. By Creative Educator
